Line cameras record the image line by line. The object or camera is moved during recording. The image field at the moment of recording is a slit the width of the desired image. This makes it possible to create large image fields (0.2m -6m) with uniform lighting. Speed is very important for line scan cameras. It determines how quickly large areas can be covered. Even very high resolutions (1µm) can be achieved on very small parts at high speed. The KEYENCE line scan camera scans at 165kHz (165,000 lines in one second). Small defects such as scratches, dirt and dents can be reliably detected. The newly developed LumiTrax™ specular reflection mode uses strip lighting along with the line scan cameras to detect surface defects that are not detected by ordinary systems.
